The City of Memphis is offering a select package of benefits to part-time employees. As a valued part-time employee, you are eligible for a range of benefits designed to support your well-being, professional development, and work-life balance. This is a continuation of our strategy to ensure we are attracting and retaining top talent for the City of Memphis.

Part-time employees who are scheduled for 20 or more hours per week and have been employed by the City for at least a year will be eligible to enroll for benefits such as group accident coverage, cancer assistance, critical illness insurance, term life insurance, and individual disability insurance. In addition, after one year of employment with the City of Memphis eligible part-time employees will qualify for a Death Benefit of $10,000(Please make sure to designate your beneficiary).

Voluntary Benefits

 

The City of Memphis offers dental and vision to those part-time employees who qualify.  Eligible part-time employees will have access to this voluntary coverage at the same premium rates as full-time employees. Pursuant to BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee underwriting requirements for participation in this program, employees must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Completed one year of service
  • Work an average of at least 20 hours per week (1,040 hours/year)
  • Expect to continue working at least 20 hours/week for the rest of 2024 and through 2025

Eligible employees will receive a confirmation letter within 30 days of meeting the one-year service mark, along with enrollment instructions.

Eligible part-time employees (excluding independent contractors) may enroll in the City’s 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan.

Benefits include:

  • Pretax contributions via payroll deduction
  • Save up to the IRS annual maximum contribution limit
